Great article. We also love the Heart & Hand, we blogged about their fantastic jukebox:

We think you'll like our other site, http://www.drinkbeerandcarryon.co.uk/

Thanks, and keep up the good work,

I don't know why you included the Pilchard in your list. Visitors who tramp out to Burgh Island are not allowed in the bar, which is reserved for hotel residents, but have to join a queue for beer which stretches down the slipway. Not much chance to enjoy the ambience there. Great location, lousy customer service, unless you're member of the exclusive few.

must have visited it out of season, was allowed in the back bar, bloody brilliant - the idea of it being exclusive is pretty horrible tho... not really what we were after for the book. also, it's not a patch on the marisco tavern on lundy - three hours sailing to get a pint - that's more like it!

The Ship Inn on Piel Island near Barrow is a shorter sail and offers the chance to become a Knight of Piel – at the cost of buying everyone in the bar a drink.

that sounds incredible!! am checking it out with a view to hitting it for a beer in the new year. says on the site it's closed for refurb last summer, hoping it's the good kind of refurb (i.e. cleaning the pipes, vague lick of paint) rather than the blonde wood/15 quid for sausage and mash type.
